UX Design for the Elderly

A growing percentage of the elderly population is using tablets and smartphones, making it important to cater to their specific needs that differ from younger users. Difficulty reading small text, trouble distinguishing between similar colours, and a lack of knowledge about interface elements like scrollbars and menu symbols are some hurdles elderly users face as they age and as a result of not growing up with the internet.

This elderly-friendly redesign of the Higher Ground coffee shop website gives enough space between elements to avoid users accidentally tapping in the wrong place, and avoids the use of hamburger menu symbols and scrolling that users may not have an understanding of. A clear option to go back to their previous page is important so that elderly users can navigate the site with ease.
