BusPatrol Webinar Landing Page

January 2022

Role: UX/UI Designer (User Research, Interaction, Visual Design, Prototyping, and Testing)

The Client:

I was working at BusPatrol, a company specializing in the creation and implementation of cameras for school buses designed to capture images of vehicle license plates of those illegally passing school buses. Their AI-Enabled Stop-Arm Camera School Bus Safety Program allows community partners to make roads safer at no cost.

The Goal:

The marketing team wanted to conduct webinars across various states, focusing on educating school districts and local law enforcement about school bus stopping camera automated enforcement laws and the utilization of BusPatrol's technology. My task involved creating a template on HubSpot, intended for future webinars in different states. The primary objectives were to drive user registration for the webinars and streamline the registration process for enhanced accessibility.

Research and Planning:

As part of our planning for the website, I developed user personas. This step provided a more comprehensive understanding of the users who would be utilizing the template. The user personas offered insights into the distinct needs, goals, and behaviors of individuals interacting with the website. This knowledge informed our decision-making processes related to design and functionality, and gave us a user-centric perspective throughout the developmental stages.

The Solution:

Next, I quickly envisioned page layouts, drawing inspiration from the insights gathered through my research on personas and user flows. I made the sign up section a sticky element so that users could easily sign up at any point they were scrolling on the page. I also added a countdown to add urgency to the sign ups, and the information expandable so that users could keep scrolling and see other sections that may be more applicable to them instead of going through detailed content that may not be useful to their specific user persona.

The Design Development:

I generated mockups to collect input from the team, developer, and users regarding the overall page layout and structure, which included establishing a standardized visual hierarchy. The subsequent step entailed conducting usability testing to validate the effectiveness of the designs. This process involved crafting a scripted scenario, prompting users to seek information on the webinar and sign up.

Collaborating with the developer, we identified and documented any additional interactions not addressed in the high-fidelity mockups. Following that, I conducted a thorough review of the template to ensure its alignment with the specified designs before the website's launch.

Conclusion:

Following the launch of the new template, there was an increase in webinar sign-ups. Also, the template was easy to customize for various states for future webinars.

Key Takeaways gained from this project include:

The best designs emerge through collaboration. Seeing diverse perspectives at the table during planning sessions was inspiring. Getting input from various stakeholders, including school boards and law enforcement, provided valuable insights into their priorities.

Embracing design thinking is crucial for creating effective products. This mindset played a pivotal role in guiding discussions with the team, enabling me to stay focused and on track throughout the entire design process.
